Ashleigh O’Neal, M.S., LMFT Associate, LPC Associate

Do you struggle to set boundaries, question your identity or self-worth, or react emotionally in ways that feel confusing? Do you wish you could better understand what’s underneath your reactions and feel more confident, grounded, and in control of your choices?

I work with couples, families, and adult individuals who feel out of control and do not see a way out of family patterns and dynamics that keep them from the life they want—whether that means losing their sense of self in relationships, experiencing the emotional impact of significant psychiatric or mental-health challenges within their family, or repeating generational patterns they told themselves they would never repeat. My clients often come to therapy feeling confused, distant, fearful, frustrated, resentful, and victimized, but after working together, they often feel more accepted, confident, hopeful, and peaceful.

As a Bowen Family Systems Therapist, I help clients look beneath the presenting problem with curiosity to identify multigenerational patterns and their impact on relationship dynamics. My work also includes helping clients recognize their role within relationship dynamics with the belief that change can happen without having to sacrifice connection. My therapeutic approach focuses on the entire system as the client, striving to reduce emotional reactivity and anxiety while producing long-term change. While Bowen Family Systems Theory is the primary lens through which I understand my clients, I am sensitive to the needs of each couple, family, or individual and committed to providing exceptional care. When therapeutically beneficial, I will draw from additional approaches, including but not limited to narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, positive psychology, and Gottman Method couples therapy.

My therapeutic style blends directness, calmness, and empowerment. In sessions, you will find that I maintain a down-to-earth, emotionally neutral presence and enjoy incorporating humor (laughter can be some of the best medicine).

I completed my master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy with an optional Professional Counseling Concentration at Texas Wesleyan University and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (#206646) and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (#103968) in Texas. During my practicum, I provided therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families at the Texas Wesleyan Community Counseling Center and facilitated group therapy for individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders across inpatient and outpatient settings at Texas Health Huguley Fort Worth South Behavioral Health Hospital. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies from Baylor University. During my time at Baylor, I completed a community internship at Oceans Behavioral Hospital and worked as a behavioral health technician at Healing Springs Ranch. I am a Prepare/Enrich Certified Facilitator and have completed training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy from BRIEF Therapy Practice and The Institute of Narrative Therapy at City St George’s, University of London. My clinical training and rigorous education have prepared me to provide culturally competent treatment, LGBTQIA+-affirmative therapy, and quality telemental health.
